Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Golden Groves different from other olive oils?
Golden Groves is a single estate, Early Harvest Extra virgin Olive Oil from 500 year old family groves on the Mani Peninsula in Greece. We grow exclusively Koroneiki olives, harvest early for higher polyphenol content, and press within 48 hours of picking. Every batch is certified organic and third-party lab tested.

Where do your olives come from?
Our olives are grown on the Mani Peninsula in the Peloponnese, Greece. Mani is renowned for producing some of the most premium olive oil in the world as it is one of the oldest olive growing regions in the world. Our groves have been in the same family for generations, with some trees over 500 years old. Single estate sourcing means every bottle comes from this one place, not a blend of oils from multiple regions or countries.

What olive variety do you use?
Our olive oil is made from koroneiki olives, a premium variety native to Greece. Koroneiki olives are prized for their high polyphenol content and robust, peppery flavour. It’s considered one of the finest varieties for premium Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

What does “Early harvest” mean, and why does it matter?
We pick our olives earlier in the season, while they’re still green, rather than waiting for them to fully ripen. Early Harvest olives yield less oil, but that oil carries significantly more polyphenols and antioxidants, which are the nutrients that make olive oil healthy.

Why is the 48-hour pressing window important?
The clock starts the moment olives leave the tree. We press within 48 hours to lock in freshness and prevent oxidation, which degrades both flavour and the beneficial compounds in the oil. Oil that sits too long before pressing loses much of what makes it worth drinking.

Is your olive oil organic?
Yes. Our groves are certified organic with no synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or fertilisers. We follow the same growing methods that have been used on this land for centuries.

How is quality verified?
Every batch is third-party lab tested for polyphenol content, acidity, and purity. We don’t just claim quality, we test for it and publish our numbers so our community can feel confident that they are making the best decision for themselves and their family.

What are polyphenols and why do they matter?
Polyphenols are natural antioxidant compounds found in olives. They’re responsible for olive oil’s peppery bite and bitterness, and they’re linked to the health benefits people associate with the Mediterranean diet, supporting heart health and reducing inflammation.

How does Golden Groves compare on polyphenol content?
Our Early Harvest, cold pressed process means our oil tests at 313mg/kg of polyphenols - well above the 250mg/kg threshold required for an EU Health Claim. Most supermarket olive oils fall far short of this, often due to late harvesting, delayed pressing or long storage before bottling.

What is the EU Health Claim and does Golden Groves qualify?
The EU Health Claim is an official EU standard that allows an olive oil state its polyphenols help protect the body from oxidative stress if it tests above 250mg/kg of polyphenols. Most supermarket olive oils sit around 50–150mg/kg, well below that line. Golden Groves tests at 313mg/kg, comfortably clearing the threshold, so when we talk about our polyphenol content, it’s a genuine, qualifying claim, not just marketing language.

How much do I need for the benefits?
Studies show benefits when having around 1 tablespoon daily. It’s a simple, easy amount to build into a routine, whether that’s a morning shot, drizzled over breakfast, or used in a salad dressing.

Is this the oil behind the “olive oil shot” trend?
It’s exactly the kind of oil that trend is built around. A daily shot only delivers a benefit if the oil itself is high in polyphenols, otherwise you’re just drinking fat with no upside. This is why sourcing and freshness matter so much more than people realise.

Why does Golden Groves come in a glass bottle?
Light and heat are olive oil’s biggest degraders. They accelerate oxidation and break down polyphenols over time. Dark glass protects the oil from light exposure far better than plastic or clear glass, helping preserve flavour and nutritional value for longer.

How should I store my olive oil once opened?
Keep it in a cool, dark place. We recommend storing in pantry or cupboard away from the stove and direct sunlight. Always reseal the cap tightly after use.

What’s the best way to use Golden Groves - cooking or finishing?
Both. Our oil’s high polyphenol content helps protect its chemical compounds during cooking, so you can fry, roast, and sauté with it - not just drizzle it. Of course, our oil is also fantastic finished raw over food, in dressings, or as a daily shot if you want it at its most vibrant.

Why does Golden Groves sell out so quickly?
We’re a small-batch, single harvest brand. Once a season’s harvest sells through, that’s it until the next one. We’d rather sell out than dilute quality with oil from another source or harvest. That way, our customer is guaranteed the same quality and flavour profile harvest after harvest.
